Every week, it feels like there is a new "must-learn" tool. First it was Figma. Then Framer. Now Spline, Rive, and a dozen AI generators.
The amateur tries to learn them all "just in case." They watch 10-hour courses, memorize interface buttons, and burn out without making anything.
The professional learns "just in time." They don't study the tool; they build a project using the tool.
We will not waste weeks on generic tutorials. We will command our AI to create a hyper-specific curriculum to help us build one thing, fast.
The Upskill Play
1. Define the Micro-Project: Do not try to "Learn Spline." That is too vague. Define a specific, small outcome: "Create a 3D interactive logo for my portfolio."
2. Command the Curriculum: Command your AI to act as an expert instructor for that specific tool. Ask it to list onlythe steps required to build your Micro-Project, ignoring everything else.
3. The On-Demand Tutor: As you build, use the AI as your technical support. Don't search Google; paste your error or describe your blocker to the AI for an instant fix.
The 'Just-in-Time Learning' Prompt
(Copy the text below, replace the parts in [brackets], and paste it into your AI tool of choice.)
Act as an expert instructor for [The Tool, e.g., Framer]. My goal is to learn this tool by building a specific project this weekend.
The Project: [Describe your micro-project. E.g., "I want to build a simple, 3-page portfolio website with a dark mode toggle and scroll animations."]
The Task: Create a step-by-step "Sprint Curriculum" for me.
Ignore features I don't need for this specific project.
List the exact sequence of steps I need to take.
Provide a brief explanation of the specific tools/panels I will need to use for each step.
Director's Note
Tools are just brushes. A director doesn't obsess over the brand of the camera; they obsess over the shot. Do not become a "tool collector" who knows every shortcut but has no work to show for it. Learn enough to be dangerous, then build.
Before & After
The 'Before' (The Tutorial Trap):
Spend Saturday watching a 4-hour "Introduction to Framer" video. Take notes on every menu item. By Sunday, feel overwhelmed and realize you still haven't built anything.
The 'After' (The AI Upskill Play):
Ask AI: "How do I build a portfolio grid in Framer?" Follow the 5 steps it gives. Hit a snag ("My images aren't resizing"). Ask AI: "How do I fix image aspect ratio in Framer stacks?" By Sunday night, the site is live.
P.S. You have speed. You have the skills. But technical skill means nothing if your work looks ugly.
Next week, we run The AI Taste-Maker Play: How to use AI to train your eye, refine your aesthetic, and develop a signature style.
